Day 2: Money & Proof 📄

Your IRD number might still be processing, but you can still make progress today. Let's get your finances sorted.

   Open a NZ bank account

   ANZ, Kiwibank, BNZ, or ASB. Many let you open online before arriving. If not, walk into a branch with passport + visa. Immigration NZ: "You may be able to open a bank account before you move here."

   Banks need proof of NZ address. You don't have one yet. Print your IRD application acknowledgement letter at the local library for 20c. Some banks accept your hostel/hotel booking confirmation. Ask your hostel to write a letter.

   Set up internet banking + app

   Download your bank's app. Set up PayWave/Apple Pay. NZ is nearly cashless.

   Get a Wise (TransferWise) account

   For transferring money from home country to NZ. Much cheaper than bank FX rates. Get the debit card too.
